5 Ways to Transform Your Apartment’s Kitchen

The tricky part about living in an apartment is that you don’t get to choose certain aspects of your home. Even though you may not be able to change the color of the walls or tiles, that doesn’t mean you can’t personalize them to meet your taste. One of the biggest points of contention for a renter is the kitchen.

It is very unlikely that your landlord will allow you to remodel your kitchen, so here are a few ways to work with what you have and transform your rental kitchen into the kitchen of your dreams!

Accessorize

Similar to how you would accessorize a plain outfit to add style, you should also accessorize the standard rental kitchen that comes with your apartment. Search for accents that will make your kitchen stand out from the rest.

Coordinate the colors of your rugs with your dishtowels to add a sense of unity to your kitchen. Purchase colorful pots and pans and notice how the plainness of the room is transformed by the vibrant colors of the pots, pans and accents. You can also choose to add natural elements to your kitchen by decorating with plants.

To go the extra mile, you can grow edible plants in your kitchen, which will come in handy when you’re cooking. Some options include herbs or tomatoes, both of which are simple enough to grow in an apartment. You can also accessorize with accents that serve a purpose, such as a magnetic knife holder. It will save space in your kitchen and accessorize it nicely!

Switch Hardware

If you do not like the knobs and pulls on your cabinets and drawers, there’s no need to leave them there! Go to your nearest store, pick up a few knobs and pulls, and use them to replace the old ones. Don’t forget to keep the original hardware because you will need to return everything back to its original state before you move out. If you forget to do this, you risk losing your security deposit.

Hang Artwork

Spice up the plain walls of your kitchen and create a focal point by hanging your favorite pieces of art. You can also create a gallery wall by hanging multiple frames on one wall. By doing this, you won’t even be able to notice the color of your walls, which is a plus if you are not a fan of the color choice.

Disguise the Parts you Don’t Like

Since you live in an apartment, the chances of a complete kitchen remodel are very slim. If you are not a fan of your kitchen’s countertops, there really isn’t much you can do when it comes to changing it. However, what you can do is disguise it.

If you leave a large cutting board on the counter at all times, it will hide the design of the countertop. It will also come in handy when you are cooking since you won’t need to search for a cutting board. If you leave a cutting board on one counter, what should you do with the other one? Using the same concept, place trays on the other countertop. The tray will serve as storage and hide your countertops at the same time.

Use Temporary Wallpaper

Decal wallpaper won’t damage your walls and it is easy to remove, making it one of the best choices for renters looking to decorate their homes. Look for a decal that resembles a backsplash and place it where an actual backsplash would go. There are plenty of designs to choose from, whether you want a more elegant, rustic or modern look.
